Company overview
Hindustan Zinc at a glance
Hindustan Zinc was incorporated in 1966 as a Government of India public-sector undertaking to build domestic zinc-production capacity. Because it was established by the government rather than by a clearly identifiable individual entrepreneur, the founder field is intentionally blank. The company operates zinc and lead mines, processing facilities, smelters and captive power plants, with most of its major operations located in Rajasthan. Its Rampura Agucha, Sindesar Khurd and other mines supply ore that is processed into refined zinc, lead and silver. Hindustan Zinc gradually expanded production and became a major integrated metals producer. The Government of India began disinvesting its stake in 2002, when Vedanta's predecessor Sterlite acquired a strategic shareholding. Hindustan Zinc now operates as part of the Vedanta Group while the government continues to hold a minority interest.
