ACKO at a glance
ACKO was started in 2016 as a technology-led insurance business. Varun Dua, Vishwanath Ramarao and Ruchi Deepak are identified by the company as members of its founding leadership. ACKO initially focused on general insurance and developed a digital model in which customers could purchase and manage insurance with limited paperwork. Its products now cover areas such as cars, two-wheelers, health and travel. The broader ACKO group has also entered life insurance. Apart from selling directly to consumers, ACKO works with digital businesses to provide insurance within their customer journeys. Technology is used for pricing, policy issuance, servicing and claims. The group operates through separately regulated insurance entities because insurance underwriting requires licences from India's insurance regulator. ACKO therefore combines an insurance company with a technology platform and digital distribution model.
