Nykaa was founded in 2012 by Falguni Nayar as a digital-first beauty retailer. Its main platform sells makeup, skincare, haircare, fragrances, personal-care and wellness products from Indian and international brands. The company later expanded into fashion through Nykaa Fashion and into business-to-business beauty distribution through Nykaa Superstore. Nykaa sells through websites and mobile apps as well as physical stores. It has also developed its own consumer brands, including Nykaa Cosmetics, Kay Beauty, Dot & Key, Nykaa Wanderlust and several fashion labels. The listed parent company is FSN E-Commerce Ventures Limited. Nykaa therefore operates a combination of online retail, physical retail, marketplaces, owned consumer brands, content and beauty distribution businesses.
