Company overview
Paytm at a glance
Paytm was started by Vijay Shekhar Sharma in 2010 as a mobile payments business. It initially helped consumers make mobile recharges and later expanded into digital wallets, bill payments, merchant payments and UPI. Today, consumers can use the Paytm app to make payments, transfer money and access selected financial services. For merchants, Paytm provides QR codes, point-of-sale devices and its Soundbox devices, which give audio confirmation when a payment is received. The company also distributes financial products such as credit, insurance and wealth products through partnerships. Paytm is operated by listed parent One 97 Communications Limited, which Sharma had established before the Paytm brand. The business earns money from merchant services, payments-related subscriptions, financial-services distribution and other technology services.
