Trent at a glance
Trent's current retail business took shape in 1998 after Tata Group company Lakme exited cosmetics and moved into apparel and lifestyle retail. Lakme acquired Littlewoods International's Indian retail business and reorganised the operations under the Trent name. Because Trent developed through corporate acquisitions and restructuring rather than through one clearly documented individual founder, the founder field is left blank. Trent's best-known formats today are Westside and Zudio. Westside sells fashion, beauty and home products with a strong emphasis on Trent's own brands, while Zudio focuses on lower-priced fashion for a mass-market customer base. The company also participates in grocery retail through Star in partnership with Tesco. Trent has expanded rapidly by opening stores across India and relies heavily on private-label products, direct sourcing and controlled inventory.
