Binny Bansal

Binny Bansal is the co-founder of Flipkart and a technology entrepreneur and investor.

Journey

Bansal studied computer science and engineering at IIT Delhi and worked at Sarnoff and Amazon. At Amazon he met Sachin Bansal, to whom he is not related. The two left in 2007 and launched Flipkart as an online bookstore, personally handling many early deliveries and building software for Indian commerce conditions.

Binny led technology, operations and logistics as Flipkart broadened its catalogue and created capabilities such as Ekart. He later served as chief operating officer, CEO and group CEO. He resigned from Flipkart in 2018 after an independent investigation into an allegation of personal misconduct; he denied the allegation. He subsequently co-founded the start-up scaling platform xto10x and became an active investor, and has also worked on other ventures.

Working approach

His strongest operating theme has been building internal systems for scale. Flipkart's logistics and marketplace infrastructure addressed weaknesses that third-party providers could not solve reliably at the time.

Assessment

Bansal was central to Flipkart's technical and operating growth. A balanced profile must include both that contribution and the circumstances of his exit, while avoiding unsupported conclusions beyond the reported investigation.
