Digantara was founded in 2018 by Anirudh Sharma, Rahul Rawat and Tanveer Ahmed. The company focuses on space situational awareness, which means understanding where satellites, rocket bodies and debris are located in Earth's orbit. As more satellites are launched, operators need accurate information to avoid collisions and manage spacecraft safely. Digantara is building a network of space-based and ground-based sensors to observe objects in orbit. It combines this information with software and analytics to create what it describes as space intelligence. Governments, satellite operators and other space organizations can use this data to understand orbital activity and assess possible threats. The company therefore operates at the intersection of satellites, sensors, data infrastructure and analytics rather than building conventional communication or Earth-imaging satellites.
