Pixxel at a glance
Pixxel was founded in 2019 by Awais Ahmed and Kshitij Khandelwal while they were students at BITS Pilani. The company builds hyperspectral Earth-observation satellites. Unlike ordinary imaging satellites, hyperspectral satellites capture information across many narrow wavelengths of light, allowing customers to identify changes that may not be visible in normal images. This data can be useful in agriculture, mining, energy, environmental monitoring and other industries. Pixxel has developed its Firefly satellite constellation and Aurora, a software platform designed to help customers access and analyse Earth-observation data. The business therefore combines satellite design, manufacturing, space operations and data software. Its long-term model is based on collecting detailed images of Earth and selling the resulting data and analytical tools to commercial and government customers.
