JSW Energy at a glance
JSW Energy was established in 1994 as a joint venture between JSW Steel and Belgium's Tractebel. Since the company was created through corporate sponsors rather than around one clearly documented individual founder, the founder field is left blank. Its first large power-generation operations were connected with the JSW Group's industrial requirements, but the company later became an independent listed energy producer. Today, JSW Energy owns and operates thermal, hydro, wind and solar power projects and has been rapidly increasing the renewable share of its portfolio. It is also developing energy-storage projects, including battery and pumped-hydro storage. Acquisitions have played an important role in its expansion, adding hydro and renewable-energy assets. The company primarily sells electricity under long-term contracts and through power markets while building a broader clean-energy platform.
