Tata Power at a glance
Tata Power was born in 1910 from Jamsetji Tata's vision of using hydroelectric power to supply electricity to Mumbai. After his death, Sir Dorabji Tata helped turn that idea into operating power projects. The Khopoli hydroelectric station began generating electricity in 1915, followed by additional hydro projects. Tata Power later expanded into thermal power generation and electricity distribution and gradually built operations across India. Today, the company has a growing renewable-energy business covering solar and wind generation, rooftop solar, solar pumps and related services. It is also involved in solar-cell and module manufacturing, transmission, electricity distribution and electric-vehicle charging. Tata Power therefore operates across much of the electricity value chain, from producing power to delivering it to households and businesses and building infrastructure for cleaner forms of energy.
