Mahindra & Mahindra was founded on 2 October 1945 by brothers Jagdish Chandra Mahindra and Kailash Chandra Mahindra together with Ghulam Mohammed. The business was originally called Mahindra & Mohammed and began with steel trading. After India's Partition, Ghulam Mohammed left for Pakistan and the company was renamed Mahindra & Mahindra. It entered automotive manufacturing by assembling Willys Jeeps and later developed a large range of utility vehicles and SUVs. Today, products include models such as Scorpio, Thar and XUV vehicles as well as commercial vehicles and electric SUVs. Mahindra is also one of the world's major tractor manufacturers through its farm-equipment business. The listed company forms an important part of the wider Mahindra Group and operates across automotive, farm machinery and related mobility businesses.
