Ather Energy at a glance
Ather Energy makes electric scooters and the technology needed to operate them. Unlike a company that only assembles vehicles using third-party technology, Ather develops important parts of its scooters itself, including battery packs, vehicle software and connected features. Its products include the Ather 450 series and the more family-focused Rizta. The company also operates Ather Grid, a public charging network for electric two-wheelers. Ather began in 2013 when Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain started working on electric vehicles at IIT Madras. It spent its early years developing the Ather 450 platform before moving into manufacturing, charging infrastructure and retail. Its business therefore combines vehicle sales with software, charging and after-sales services.
