Company overview
Tata Motors at a glance
Tata Motors traces its origins to 1945, when Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company, or TELCO, was established under J. R. D. Tata's leadership. The company initially manufactured locomotives and other engineering equipment before entering commercial vehicles through a partnership with Daimler-Benz in the 1950s. It later developed its own trucks, buses, utility vehicles and passenger cars. Tata Motors launched vehicles such as the Tata Indica, Safari and Ace and has become a major participant in India's electric passenger-vehicle market. The company also owns Jaguar Land Rover, which gives it a large international premium-car business. Tata Motors therefore operates across passenger vehicles, electric vehicles and commercial vehicles through different business units and subsidiaries, selling products in India and many international markets.
