Pulkit Khurana

Pulkit Khurana is the co-founder and chief executive officer of electric-mobility infrastructure company Battery Smart.

Journey

Khurana studied at IIT Kanpur and began his career in technology and entrepreneurship. Before Battery Smart, he and Siddharth Sikka built a mobility-focused start-up in 2015. The experience exposed them to the operating difficulties faced by commercial drivers and the importance of vehicle uptime, even though that earlier venture did not become their main business.

The founders started Battery Smart in 2019 to build a battery-swapping network for electric two- and three-wheelers. Instead of requiring drivers to wait for charging or own an expensive battery, the network lets them exchange depleted packs at partner stations. Khurana leads strategy, fundraising and expansion, while the model depends on standardised batteries, dense stations and software that tracks assets and energy use.

Working approach

Khurana has focused on the economics of commercial drivers rather than treating electrification as a consumer feature. A useful swapping network must reduce downtime and make partner stations viable at the same time.

Assessment

He has helped turn battery swapping into an operating network rather than a pilot. Battery life, safety, utilisation and capital efficiency will determine whether scale produces a durable infrastructure business.
