Sriharsha Majety

Sriharsha Majety is the co-founder, managing director and Group CEO of Swiggy, the listed food-delivery and convenience company.

Journey

Majety completed a dual programme in electrical and electronics engineering and physics at BITS Pilani, followed by a postgraduate diploma in management from IIM Calcutta. He then worked at Nomura in India and London in an investment-banking role.

After leaving finance, Majety explored entrepreneurship with Nandan Reddy. They started Bundl, a business intended to help online sellers manage shipping and courier services. The venture did not find a sufficiently strong position and was shut. The founders then studied other delivery problems and concluded that food ordering offered frequent demand but lacked dependable last-mile logistics.

Majety and Reddy joined with technology co-founder Rahul Jaimini to launch Swiggy in Bengaluru in 2014. Unlike restaurant-listing businesses that depended mainly on restaurants for delivery, Swiggy built its own delivery network. This gave the company greater control over the customer experience and became an important part of its early growth.

Swiggy later expanded into quick commerce through Instamart, dining and going-out services, and other convenience categories. Some experiments, including businesses such as Supr Daily and Genie, were reduced or closed as the group refined its priorities. Swiggy listed on the Indian stock exchanges in 2024.

Working approach

Majety has described the company as willing to iterate but careful about adding categories merely because they are possible. The failure of Bundl and later portfolio changes show a readiness to redirect resources when customer demand or economics are weak.

Assessment

Majety’s main contribution is combining a consumer marketplace with controlled logistics and then extending that capability into new categories. His current challenge is to improve profitability in quick commerce while protecting growth and capital discipline across the group.
