Neeraj Singh

Whole-time Director & CTO, Groww

Background

About Neeraj Singh

Neeraj Singh is a co-founder, whole-time director and chief technology officer of Groww. He leads product development and technology for the investment platform.

Journey

Singh earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in information technology from ITM in Gwalior and completed a postgraduate diploma in advanced computing at the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing. His early career was grounded in software engineering and large transaction systems.

Before starting Groww, he worked at Flipkart as an engineering manager. One of his important responsibilities was building systems for customer returns and refunds, an area where software has to coordinate payments, inventory, operations and customer communication. That experience was relevant to financial services, where accuracy, reliability and clear records are essential.

In 2016, Singh left Flipkart with Lalit Keshre, Harsh Jain and Ishan Bansal to start Groww. The founders wanted to make investing easier for people who found existing financial platforms confusing. Groww began with direct mutual funds, presenting information and transactions through a simple mobile and web experience. It later expanded into broking and a wider range of investment and credit products.

As CTO, Singh has overseen the technology needed to support a regulated platform serving a large retail user base. His role covers product development, customer research, platform reliability and the separation of different financial products for users with different needs.

Working approach

Singh has argued against forcing every service into one undifferentiated super-app. That position reflects a preference for products designed around distinct customer groups, while using shared infrastructure where it is useful.

Assessment

Singh’s contribution is the technical foundation that allows Groww to present complex financial transactions simply. The standard for success is unusually high because convenience must be matched by security, resilience, regulatory compliance and protection against mis-selling.
